The Top 5 Cafés in Punda

Punda is by far the most famous part of Curaçao’s capital, Willemstad. It's a district full of history, colorful architecture, vibrant streets and some of the best cafés on the island. For this reason, we’ve come up with a list of the top 5 cafés in Punda that we think you should definitely check out during your next trip to Curaçao.

The Blue Curaçao Experience is a new, one-of-a-kind experience located in the historic waterfront strip in Punda known as the ‘Handelskade’. The Blue Curaçao Experience is more than just a café, as you can also follow ‘The Blue Curaçao Experience Tour’ where you can learn all about the world-famous Blue Curaçao Liqueur while completing challenges, solving puzzles, cracking codes and much more.

After completing the tour, there is a souvenir shop where you can create your own personalized Curaçao Liqueur bottle. What also makes The Blue Curaçao Experience special is its industrial-style bar and colorful terrace where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the best cocktails on Curaçao. There’s also a wide variety of meals and bites for you to choose from, while you enjoy the sight of the beautiful Sint Anna Bay. If you're lucky, you'll also get to see the 'Swinging Old Lady' Bridge slide open to let the ships into Curaçao's harbor.

Another great place where you can take a seat to admire the beauty of the Sint Anna Bay and the Swinging Old Lady Bridge is Iguana Café. This café is especially popular for its live music shows on Saturday evenings, but spontaneous live music shows during the week are also common. If you enjoy dancing salsa, merengue,  bachata and you don't mind letting your hips loose in front of a bunch of people, then Iguana Café should certainly be on your list of places to visit while you wander around Punda.

Address: Handelskade 13

Opening times: Monday to Friday from 09:00 am to 11:00 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 09:00 am to 12:00 am

3. La Bohème

La Bohème Curaçao is an atypical bistro located in the heart of Punda. It is run by a Chilean family who in 1999 decided to change Chile’s mountains and cold weather for Curaçao’s beaches and endless summer atmosphere.

La Boheme family strives to celebrate their history by combining colors of South America and the Caribbean in a unique mosaic and colorful façade. Make sure to pay them a visit if you’re hungry, as their menu is also a reflection of their mixed backgrounds and taste for exotic flavors.

Address: Columbusstraat 4

Opening times: Monday to Saturday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm

 4. "Un Poco Loco" - Mundo Bizarro

If you're traveling with a group of friends, you may probably have that one person in your group who is crazier than the others (did his/ her name already pop up in your head?). This guy or lady is always restless and on the lookout for a crazy night. If your main concern is to make sure that this friend doesn't get bored so you don't go crazy as well, then Mundo Bizarro - which means 'crazy world' - must be an evening stop if your friend is asking you to go out "for just a little while".

The name of the place says it all, "A little crazy" is indeed the atmosphere that you'll experience at this Cuban-inspired café. Its interior is an amalgamation of everything, what makes it really feel like a living room. You see decorative bird cages hanging from the ceiling and here and there a typical wall painting.

With daily happy hours, live music and a great selection of dishes, Mundo Bizarro makes a great place to tire that friend out!

Address: Nieuwestraat 12

Opening times: Monday to Saturday from 08:00 am to 1:00 am and Sundays from 08:00 am to 12:00 am.

5. Miles Jazz Café

We know that by now you must be thinking "Okay, these guys in Curaçao really seem to love Salsa, Merengue and Bachata"... but hey! We also love Jazz, and thanks to Miles' owners Hans and Martin, we have a great place in Punda to enjoy laid-back Jazz music from real vinyl turntables.

Named after the legendary Miles Davis, Miles Jazz Café is the best place to be in Curaçao if you are a Jazz lover and are looking for a relaxing evening atmosphere. The live Jazz nights make this café the center of Curaçao's Jazz scene, whether local talent, or international celebrities are playing, you're in for a real treat! Besides the great music, you should also take the time to enjoy their nice collection of Jazz vinyls from the old Blue Note classics to modern day artists who occasionally drop by to sign their copies. If you want to take a home a nice memory of your visit to Miles, make sure to buy the "so what...!" t-shirt after the most famous Miles Davis song which is also the last call for drinks tune every night at Miles Jazz Café.

Opening times: Monday to Thursday from 4:00 pm to 2:00 am, Fridays and Saturdays from 4:00 pm to 3:00 am and Sundays from 4:00 pm to 12:00 am.
